वेस्ट एशिया में बढ़ते हमलों को लेकर भारत की चिंता बढ़ गई है। भारत ने UN सिक्योरिटी काउंसिल को बताया कि इस इलाके में हालात बहुत चिंताजनक हैं और तनाव कम करने के लिए ठोस कदम उठाने की ज़रूरत है। भारत ने सऊदी अरब में एयरपोर्ट, मर्चेंट शिप और नाविकों पर हुए हमलों की कड़ी निंदा की। भारत ने कहा कि युद्ध और लड़ाई से किसी को फ़ायदा नहीं होगा, और इस बात पर ज़ोर दिया कि इस इलाके में शांति लाने के लिए बातचीत और डिप्लोमैटिक तरीके ज़रूरी हैं।

India stands in complete solidarity with the Govt and people of Saudi Arabia in defence of their sovereignty. Recent attacks against commercial shipping such as on the India-flagged MV DP World Kaveri this week, on MT Petro Dolphin and MT Walthera last week, are deeply concerning. All attacks on commercial shipping and merchant mariners are legally and morally indefensible. Several of these ships have Indian seafarers and their safety and security are our direct responsibility. We thank the Omani and the UAE authorities for valuable support in ensuring safety of Indian seafarers in these attacks. India reiterates the need for immediate de-escalation and the resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. Attacks on commercial vessels, on seafarers and civilian infrastructure must cease. Freedom of navigation and the safe and unimpeded flow of maritime commerce through international waterways in accordance with international law must be upheld. The safety and security of seafarers remains a priority for Govt of India and these recurring attacks risk further aggravation of a very volatile situation…At the BRICS Summit last month, PM Narendra Modi proposed establishing a seafarers’ emergency support network which could connect the maritime authorities and embassies of the countries concerned and facilitate distress alerts, medical assistance, communication with families and support for evacuation when needed…”

यूनाइटेड नेशंस में भारत के परमानेंट रिप्रेजेंटेटिव और एम्बेसडर हरीश पर्वतन्याई ने सिक्योरिटी काउंसिल की मीटिंग में कहा कि वेस्ट एशिया में शांति और सुरक्षा भारत के लिए सबसे ज़रूरी है। उन्होंने सऊदी अरब में एयरपोर्ट पर हाल ही में हुए हमलों में जान गंवाने वालों को श्रद्धांजलि दी। इन हमलों में भारतीय नागरिक मोहम्मद यूसुफ अली की भी मौत हो गई। भारत ने सऊदी अरब की सरकार और लोगों के साथ उनकी सॉवरेनिटी और टेरिटोरियल इंटीग्रिटी को बनाए रखने की कोशिशों में एकजुटता दिखाई।
भारत ने साफ़ कर दिया है कि मर्चेंट शिप, नाविकों और आम लोगों पर हमले तुरंत बंद होने चाहिए। भारत ने हाल ही में भारतीय झंडे वाले MV DP वर्ल्ड कावेरी समेत कई मर्चेंट शिप को निशाना बनाने की घटनाओं पर भी चिंता जताई। भारत ने कहा कि कई भारतीय नाविकों की सुरक्षा पक्का करना सरकार की एक अहम ज़िम्मेदारी है, क्योंकि इन शिप पर बड़ी संख्या में भारतीय नाविक होते हैं।
भारत ने भारतीय नाविकों की मदद के लिए ओमान और यूनाइटेड अरब अमीरात के अधिकारियों के सहयोग की तारीफ़ की। भारत और लाइबेरिया ने नाविकों और समुद्री ट्रांसपोर्ट की सुरक्षा के लिए यूनाइटेड नेशंस के ज़रिए ‘ग्रुप ऑफ़ फ्रेंड्स’ पहल शुरू की है। इस पहल में 23 दूसरे सदस्य देशों ने भी हिस्सा लिया है। इस पहल का मुख्य मकसद समुद्र में हमलों को रोकना और समुद्री सुरक्षा के लिए इंटरनेशनल सहयोग बढ़ाना है।
प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने नाविकों के लिए एक इमरजेंसी मदद का सिस्टम बनाने का भी प्रस्ताव दिया है। यह सिस्टम नाविकों को मेडिकल मदद देने, उनके परिवारों से संपर्क करने और मुश्किल समय में सुरक्षित जगह पर ले जाने में मदद करने का इंतज़ाम करेगा। भारत ने यमन की एकता और आज़ादी के लिए अपना समर्थन जताया। इसने यह भी साफ़ किया कि बाब-अल-मंडेब स्ट्रेट और दक्षिणी लाल सागर में समुद्री ट्रैफ़िक की सुरक्षा पक्का करना पूरे इंटरनेशनल समुदाय की मिली-जुली ज़िम्मेदारी है।
भारत ने यह भी चेतावनी दी कि होर्मुज स्ट्रेट में बढ़ते तनाव के कारण गाजा में मानवीय संकट को नज़रअंदाज़ नहीं किया जाना चाहिए। भारत ने मानवीय मदद, आतंकवाद की निंदा और इज़राइल-फ़िलिस्तीनी संघर्ष के लिए दो-राज्य समाधान की भूमिका के लिए अपना समर्थन दोहराया। भारत ने अब तक फ़िलिस्तीन शरणार्थियों के लिए यूनाइटेड नेशंस रिलीफ़ एंड वर्क्स एजेंसी को US$ 52 मिलियन से ज़्यादा की फ़ाइनेंशियल मदद दी है।
इसके अलावा, भारत ने लेबनान में यूनाइटेड नेशंस इंटरिम फ़ोर्स पर हुए हमलों की भी निंदा की। भारत ने साफ़ किया कि शांति सैनिकों को निशाना बनाना मंज़ूर नहीं है क्योंकि वे इंटरनेशनल शांति और सुरक्षा बनाए रखने में अहम भूमिका निभाते हैं। भारत ने लेबनानी सेना को और मज़बूत करने के अलावा यूनाइटेड नेशंस बेस की सुरक्षा पक्का करने पर भी ज़ोर दिया।
