जात है कि जाती नहीं

भारत में वर्तमान समय में ‘दलित’ शब्द का अनेक अर्थों में उपयोग होता है। इसकी कोई सर्वमान्य परिभाषा नहीं है, किन्तु देखा जाए तो उन वर्गों को दलित कहा जाता है जो वर्तमान में अनुसूचित जाति के अन्तर्गत आते हैं। वर्तमान समय में जिनको दलित कहा जाता है, उन को पहले ‘अछूत’ या ‘अस्पृश्य’ माना जाता था। जिनका अनेक प्रकार से शोषण हुआ और आज भी हो रहा हैं।
