पंजाब के अमृतसर जिले में एक पुलिसवाले पर हमला हुआ। पंजाब पुलिस ने दावा किया है कि उसने हमले में शामिल और पाकिस्तानी हैंडलर्स के कहने पर काम करने वाले एक गैंग का भंडाफोड़ किया है। पुलिसवाले पर हमले के बाद, आरोपी ने भागने की कोशिश की और पुलिस ऑफिसर की सर्विस रिवॉल्वर छीन ली। इस दौरान हुई फायरिंग में आरोपी घायल हो गया।

Interrogation revealed that a Pakistan-based ISI agent had hatched the conspiracy, which was executed by Baljit, a notorious criminal previously lodged at Goindwal Sahib Jail. Sahib Gori, a resident of a nearby village, in turn brought along two associates, Simranjit and Baljit; after conducting a reconnaissance of the route, they targeted our ASI. The incident that occurred this afternoon, around 1:15 PM, took place when the Ajnala police team was taking the main shooter, Sahib Gori, out of the vehicle to recreate the crime scene; he attempted to snatch the .38 bore service revolver from one of our officers and succeeded in doing so. A scuffle ensued as other personnel grappled with him, resulting in two shots being fired; one of the bullets pierced the roof of the official police vehicle. When our officer’s colleague stepped in to assist and grabbed the accused, a shot was fired that struck the accused in the leg; he was subsequently moved for medical treatment. NDTV की एक रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक, अमृतसर रूरल पुलिस ने बताया कि यह गैंग गोइंदवाल साहिब सेंट्रल जेल में बंद एक आदमी ने बनाया था। इस आदमी ने फिर से मोबाइल फोन के ज़रिए पाकिस्तानी ISI मास्टरमाइंड से कॉन्टैक्ट किया था। पता चला है कि मास्टरमाइंड ने पुलिसवाले पर हमला करने और पंजाब में दहशत फैलाने के लिए 10 लाख रुपये का ऑफर दिया था।
यह मामला 4 अक्टूबर को हुई फायरिंग की घटना से जुड़ा है। इस घटना में अमृतसर के गवर्नमेंट रेलवे पुलिस (GRP) स्टेशन पर पोस्टेड ASI सुखचैन सिंह को उस समय गोली मार दी गई थी, जब वह अपनी मोटरसाइकिल से घर लौट रहे थे। पुलिस के मुताबिक, शाम करीब 7:15 बजे, ASI जगदेव खुर्द गांव में अपने घर से सिर्फ़ 200 मीटर दूर थे, तभी मोटरसाइकिल पर सवार तीन युवक उनकी तरफ़ दौड़े। उनमें से एक ने उन्हें जान से मारने के इरादे से गोली मार दी। गोली ASI के बाएं हाथ में लगी, जिसके बाद उन्हें अजनाला के सिविल हॉस्पिटल में भर्ती कराया गया।
